Wherever you go there you are

Have you ever wondered why things keep happening to you again and again? Why you seem to attract the same or similar situations to yourself or your business? Ask yourself these questions and answer as honestly as you can allow yourself, with out beating yourself up:

  • Are you the type of person who seems to attract clients who may pay well but never on time?
  • Are you the type of person who attracts feast or famine cycles in their business?
  • Perhaps you are the type of person who keeps attracting a lot of work and clients, but not in the field or area that you want to move into?

The reason this keeps happening is because you are the same but you want something different.

This is a fundamental conundrum in the world of self awareness. We want something different but find it incredibly challenging to change what we don’t want.

Knowing what it takes to create real change and shifts in our thinking is key in changing your outward circumstances. Working on our business and strategy helps us feel in control and ‘business like’. It controls those anxiety rumbles that seems to come up when an invoice is late, or when the mortgage or rent needs to be paid.

Making changes in the outside world is good but it doesn’t last, the changes need to come from within your head.

Being able to make one small change to the way you think will reward you in ways that are worth money in your pocket and clients on your list.

Start today to change just one way you operate mentally.

  • Start to do just one thing at a time. Think about one thing at a time, don’t just skip around.
  • Learn to meditate (or at least quiet the mind).
  • Start to notice your negative self talk and don’t engage in it.
  • Start to manage your breath. Breathe in through the nose and out through the nose. This engages the parasympathetic nervous system, it calms you down, mentally and physically.

Begin with one thing for three days and feel the difference.

The challenge we face in making small changes to the way we think is that no one gets to see the effort we put in. We are not rewarded from the outside world, and there are no pats on the back.

Do this for yourself and the pats on the back will no longer be needed and will come in the form of tangible results anyway.

So, like the Crowded House song says, “Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you”. You can create the conditions of your mind – calm, responsive, clear and at peace – so that wherever you go there you are and you are happy about that.

Good for you, good for your business.

“Only the man who learns how to relax is able to create, and for him ideas reach the mind like lightning.” Cicero
